Weather, Climate and Temperatures in Minorca

The Balearic Islands, of which Minorca is a part, are known as the islands of eternal spring. The climate is mild and typically Mediterranean, with average summer temperatures around 27°C. This allows for enjoyment of the sea and beaches, as well as visits to the extraordinary artistic gems that the island towns are rich in.

The Climate in Minorca Throughout the Year

Minorca has a slightly different climate compared to the nearby Ibiza, Mallorca, and Formentera. It is a bit more humid with the characteristic Tramontana, a dry wind that comes from the north, reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h in winter, dropping temperatures to 5-6 degrees. In summer, however, it makes the air pleasant, sweeps away humidity, and allows for a vacation without sweltering heat. There are about 70 to 90 rainy days in a year, generally between February, October, and November, while the rest of the time enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. The ideal times to visit Minorca are from May to October when the climate remains mild.

Clothing Tips for Minorca

The weather in Minorca is comparable to that of southern Italian regions. Summers can be very hot, with high temperatures during the central hours of the day. Winters rarely get very harsh, and the cold lasts briefly, only in the middle of winter. In general, we can say that except for the most extreme periods, it is almost always spring in Minorca. Rain is predictable, so simply check the local weather to know whether to bring umbrellas and rain jackets. From April to May and then in September and October, it's best to dress in layers because the temperature difference between the hot hours and the evening/night hours can be significant.
