Getting Around Formentera

Formentera has only 19 km of roads. In practice, after the first day of vacation, you will have already traveled all the roads on the island. There is no need for a car, in fact, there are very few. However, if you absolutely cannot do without one, there are car rentals available. If you want to "feel" the island, you should use your legs and walk on foot through nature. This does not mean spending your vacation admiring lizards and birds, but taking pathways to the beach. Give it a try. On the page of itineraries there is a list of trails and a detailed map of how to reach them.

The Island of Bicycles and Scooters!

If you want to truly enjoy the island, the ideal way to get around is by bicycle, which has an extensive network of bike lanes that follow the main road routes. The number of bikes available for rent on the island is double the resident population! Don't forget to dedicate a day to the green circuit, which allows you to bike through the main scenic areas while passing through ancient rural roads, complemented by nearly perfect signage. No asphalt, so there's a lot of dust but also a lot of fun. On this page you can read about the route of the circuit and download the detailed map. Given the short distances, many prefer to get around the island by taxi.

Taxis can be found in all locations on the island and will take you from one place to another quickly without costing a fortune. Formentera is also well served by a regular bus line with stops at the main locations on the island, such as El Pilar, Ca Marí, Mariland, es Caló, Sant Ferran, Illetes beach, es Pujols, sa Roqueta, Sant Francesc Xavier, and La Savina. After bicycles, the most loved means of transport by tourists is the scooter, which allows for quick access to the beaches or villages across the island.

Typically, for 100 euros a week, you can rent a Zip or Typhoon, which you can refuel for a maximum of 4 euros. Let's say that with about 10 euros, you can cruise around the island for an entire week. There are only two gas stations on the island, located in Saint Francesc and Saint Ferran.

By Boat Around Formentera

Another way to get around the island is, of course, by boat. This can be a bit of a splurge, but it's the best way for those who want to explore the island directly from the sea and swim away from the crowded beaches. You can rent a boat either at La Savina or at Puerto Deportivo Formentera.
