Best Things to Do:

Calella is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Costa Brava-Maresme and the Mediterranean. The town is nestled in a unique landscape, surrounded by the Montnegre y Hortsaviny Natural Park and in front of a vast beach that has been awarded the Blue Flag of the European Community for many years. Barcelona is only a few kilometers away, as well as the rest of the Costa Brava-Maresme. This makes Calella a good starting point for exploring this beautiful stretch of the Mediterranean. Calella has a vibrant life and a variety of entertainment options to suit everyone's needs, including shopping enthusiasts who can empty their wallets in over 800 stores in the city.

The Beaches of Calella

Calella has three main beaches: Playa Gran, Playa de Garbi, and Playa de les Roques. Playa Gran is located right in front of the town center; it is very large but also very crowded, as it is easily accessible. It runs parallel to Paseo Manuel Puigvert and is equipped for various activities: it has 2 futsal courts, 9 volleyball courts, 1 basketball court, and 8 beach bars where you can drink and eat. Playa de Garbi is a bit smaller than Playa Gran but equally beautiful and well-equipped. It is located in the area where Calella's hotels are concentrated and is easily accessible on foot. Playas de Les Roques is located south of Calella's center, right at the foot of the Montnegre Natural Park. It is a stunning cove, with crystal clear water set in a backdrop of great natural beauty, surrounded by pine trees and cliffs. It is a beach also popular among nudists. It is close to the Lighthouse and can be easily reached by car towards Barcelona, just outside the historic center of Calella.

What to Visit in Calella

Calella is a vast pedestrian area with 15 squares where tourists and locals stroll or stop to chat. The city has many shops, restaurants, and bars, which explains the continuous flow of people at any hour of the day. It does not have major monuments of interest, and the entire town center revolves around the church of Santa Maria, from which an intricate network of narrow and straight streets branches out. Calella has some beautiful promenades: a must-see is the ascent to the city's symbol, the lighthouse built in 1859, and the walk along the Manuel Puigvert avenues, shaded by century-old banana trees, and the new promenade of Garbí, which is right by the sea, in the new area of the city.
